Atropine Dosage Calculator
Calculate atropine dosages for treatment of bradycardia, as a preanesthetic, and for organophosphate toxicity.
Warning
Atropine can cause tachycardia and other anticholinergic effects. Monitor heart rate closely.
Information
Atropine is an anticholinergic agent used to increase heart rate in bradycardia, as a preanesthetic, and to treat organophosphate toxicity.
For treatment of bradycardia
0.02
Min: 0.02Max: 0.04
Route: IV, IM, SC
Clinical Notes
Indications:
- Sinus bradycardia
- AV block
- Preanesthetic medication to reduce secretions
- Organophosphate or carbamate toxicity
Precautions:
- Use with caution in patients with glaucoma, urinary obstruction, or GI obstruction
- May cause tachycardia, dry mouth, urinary retention, and hyperthermia
- For organophosphate toxicity, higher doses may be needed and repeated frequently
- Monitor heart rate during and after administration
Notes:
For organophosphate toxicity, clinical signs rather than a specific dose should guide therapy. Continue treatment until signs of anticholinergic effects (mydriasis, dry mucous membranes) appear.
